In 1204 BC, Paris, son of Priam, visited Greece where he was smitten by and carried away Helen, wife of Menelaus, King of Sparta. Menelaus assembled the princes of Greece with their forces , under the command of Agamemnon (brother of Menelaus), and with a large armament, sailed to Troy; and after a siege lasting 10 years, took the city by stratagem (the famous Trojan horse) and destroyed it in 1184 BC.
