On New Year's Day, a dog finds a bone in the Hollywood Hills--and unearths a murder committed more than twenty years earlier. It's a cold case, but for Detective Harry Bosch, it stirs up memories of his childhood as an orphan. He can't let it go. As the investigation takes Bosch deeper into the past, a beautiful rookie cop brings him alive in the present. No official warning can break them apart--or prepare Bosch for the explosions when the case takes a few hard turns. Suddenly all of L.A. is in an uproar, and Bosch, fighting to keep control, is driven to the brink of an unimaginable decision.

Another good entry in the Harry Bosch series as he searches for answers in a cold case of a missing child whose bones turn up on a California hillside. The mysteries in the Bosch books are rarely as twisty as some of the other books I tend to read, but I just find that Harry himself is a good enough draw to keep me coming back.

I have read several of Connelly's "Bosch" books, which have all been very good, but this one is the best so far. Highly recommended.

This is the first Michael Connelly book I have read. It is an engaging easy read, interesting characters and story line.

A melancholy non-dramatic police story that focused more on police procedures and politics that finally drove a veteran cop to retirement.

This is the review for the previous Michael Connelly book - "A Darkness More than Night" - not a review for "City of Bones"

Detective Bosch is called to investigate a case where a dog finds a human bone that belongs to a child killed many years ago. Really like the detective's unflagging drive to solve this difficult case. There's a little romance too, but it ends in tragedy. A page-turner.
