there's a question mark on the date for this cd: I'd say it was closer to 1976 than 1990. good news: it includes Elton's remake of the old Beatles song, LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS, a song that sprang out of the starting gate, ahead of everything except another Lennon-tinged single, from Bowie, FAME. how appropriate, a song that rocketed to the top of the charts, from the Rocket Man , himself. actually, it is not good news. this is the original cd. later, on a reissue, there were Bonus Tracks including the L-song I have already mentioned. I myself am not an awesome Elton fan; so, I can pass on this cd: lacking, as it does, the bonus track or tracks.

why doesn't the library make a list of the tracks on the cds? it might be the patron doesn't like the artist, unreservedly, but is only looking to hear a particularly favorite song, once again. making a list of the tracks available, makes the decision whether or not to check out the item, SO MUCH EASIER. Make sense?

Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, Elton John's career as one of pop music's most persistent and prolific singer/song-writers has endured now for five decades.

A 6-time Grammy Award-winner, Elton John (who sexually came out of the closet in the 1980's) has had more than 50 top 40 hits (between the years 1970-1994) and his records have collectively sold over 250 million copies, worldwide.

Many of Elton John's biggest and most memorable hits were co-written with his one-time song-collaborator, lyricist, Bernie Taupin.

This "Greatest Hits" CD contains 11 tracks in all which were recorded by Elton John between the years of 1970-1975,. Three of my very favourite tunes in this compilation are - Your Song, Bennie And The Jets, and Rocket Man (*watch video*).

*Trivia note* - In 2009 Elton John's personal wealth was estimated at being approx. $300 million.

Elton John's "Greatest Hits" only covers the early years, but those were sensational recordings. This is one of the greatest musicians to ever record rock and roll music. Elton really made music that will stand the test of time. The material was original and performed with a great deal of enthusiasm. Just look at the album cover. Is that a man who isn't having fun as a rock star? You can't go wrong with Elton Johns "Greatest Hits"!

This double-disc of John's greatest hits is exactly as advertised: the greatest. There is little to no filler on this compilation. Truthfully, I prefer his older hits on the first disc, like "Tiny Dancer", "Daniel", "Candle in the Wind", "Bennie and the Jets", and the like, but the second disc is nothing to scoff at, with "I'm Still Standing", "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues", "Sacrifice", "Something About The Way You Look Tonight", his Lion King contributions "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life", and his memorable duet with Kiki Dee "Don't Go Breaking My Heart". You don't realize how many Elton John songs you adore until you listen to what is the essence of his discography in its entirety. I highly recommend this album.
