The novel begins with "My name is Mila and this is my journey" and after 336 pages we learn who Mila is along with her gruesome story of human trafficking. A dead woman comes to life and takes Rizolli hostage just before she is about to give birth. This is a fast paced compelling story, hard to put down and also sometimes hard to read yet very worthwhile.

Whether it's the gruesome details of being a medical examiner (and, in this case, unzipping a body bag to find a female body still alive) or the frightening reality of the international sex trade and how vast it is even in the USA, Gerritsen weaves her magic storytelling once again.

This Rizzoli and Isles book is about when Jane is having her baby, but gets held hostage.

This reminded me of the theme in the film Eastern Promises. An excellent companion read.
