This book my favourite by Salley Vickers. The characters are beautifully developed and the story requires your attention. I have a theory which haunts me about this book. Pay attention to the state of mind of the suicidal woman, the number of trips to Italy, Hussain's electrons, and maybe, like me, you will have a slow realization about Thomas. If you love paintings by Caravaggio, Rome, an intriguing storyline, love and grief, and the capacity of intelligent minds to imagine.....then read this book!

This touching, thoughtful story is somewhat diminished by an overly telescoped plot line and at times stodgy prose.
