Opinion

From Library Staff

The Velveteen Rabbit, a stuffed rabbit very much loved by his owner, a boy, longs to be real, with the ability to hop about like the rabbits in the nearby woods. Sometimes, dreams really do come true, and perhaps they will in this magical story...

I read this to my 8 year old. There were pictures and he was able to follow along with the story.

No illustrations. A complete travesty for this book. The story is great, though.

" "Real isn't how you are made," said the skin horse. "It's a thing that happens to you...it doesn't happen all at once. You become. It takes a long time. Generally by the time you are Real, most of your fur has been loved off, and your eyes drop out, and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these don't matter at all because once you are Real you can't be ugly except to people who don't understand." "
