a dystopian look at what happens to a society that no longer has the benefit of a shared history of books and the information, stories and emotion they contain.

Trauffaut's only film made in a language he didn't speak - English, and it was not well received in its early years.

special features and reviews report lots of trouble on the set, but I didn't find it evident while watching.

interesting to watch the titles of the books as they burn.

One of my favorites. Christie is fantastic as usual…doing two roles. The male lead is my favorite French actor anyway for that day so he could do no wrong. The music score is fantastic. The ending is the most beautiful and somber messages I had ever seen and it made me cry, but it also made me memorize an entire book just for the heck of it, so that for a while there (I was 12 years old at the time-) I would walk around and say, I am…(the name of my memorized book).and I could quote any part of it. I particularly remember the part of burning the house down with the books inside and the lady refusing to give it all up…my mother was a librarian so I can't imagine. This is a must see for anyone who loves books.

This is a brilliant adaption, with Truffaut touches, of the book. Acting is superb with Julie Christie doing two roles and the rest of the entire cast doing a fantastic job.

Too weird for my taste. However, a cult classic. Represents a society where freedom is taken away, which should never happen.
