Look for silver screen legend Eli Wallach to help lift this film to a better-than-average kind of chick-flick.

One of my favourites for the holidays, it always makes me smile

An average-to-good-but-not-great romantic comedy.

I loved this movie! It was funny, romantic and light-hearted. A definite movie to see all year around.

I love this movie! No matter the time of the year, if I need a little pick-me-up, this is one of my 3 go-to movies to pop in the DVD player. I disagree with the previous reviewer. Although I, too, questioned casting Jack Black as a love interest, as the movie progressed I found myself appreciating this unusual casting. In fact, it was refreshing to see someone who appeared to be "more everyday real" cast in the role. He did help to make the move its best.

Delightful movie despite Jack Black being badly miscast as a love interest. Good holiday fare.

This was a very cute holiday movie -- Jude Law did bring tears to my eyes at one point. Definitely a romance with just a touch of comedy.

Great feel-good movie. The DVD is in terrible condition. So much skipping, lost many of my favorite scenes.

My husband and I re-watched this recently. It was lovely to view something that was not based on nastiness, violence, sex. So that may eliminate many viewers. If you just want to watch a lovely movie with a happy ending, this is it. There are of course relationship challenges and personal growth stories within the plot. There are zany, improbably moments but not as many as in the violent, nasty movies that kill or maim someone every minute and a half.

This is really heartwarming and sweet film. Really smart too. I loved all the old movie talk. The relationship between Iris and the Abbott was the best! and...IRENE DUNNE!!!!!

I recently watched this for a second time...and wondered why I'd thought I might like it all over again? Why did I like it in the first place? I suppose I was remembering Jack Black, mostly - in fact, the only scene in the movie worth watching is the one in the video store with him and Kate Winslet (and a neat and satisfying little cameo by Dustin Hoffman). This scene, you can find on YouTube. Don't bother watching the rest of the movie for it.
