This is a 1996 documentary about the Great Sphinx of Giza, originally broadcast as the A&E television program.
This massive lion of the desert boasts the carved human head of a pharaoh and the body of a recumbent lion.
To which great ruler does the Sphinx's massive form pay homage?
Who built this enduring statue and where did the inspiration come from?
In this fascinating look into the history behind the sphix, experts debate these and many other significant questions.
However, the film doesn't talk about the Orion correlation theory, as expounded by popular authors Graham Hancock and Robert Bauval, which is based on the proposed exact correlation of the three pyramids at Giza with the three stars forming Orion's Belt in the relative positions occupied by these stars in 10500 BC.
The authors argue that the geographic relationship of the Sphinx, the Giza pyramids and the Nile directly corresponds with Leo, Orion and the Milky Way respectively.
Sometimes cited as an example of pseudoarchaeology, the theory is at variance with mainstream scholarship.
