one of the people making a comment said that they had a problem with the movie freezing up at the end. Consumer reports recommends using dishwashing liquid on the disk and of course drying it thoroughly before reinserting the disk. this has worked for me hundreds of times.

The movie itself was really great but the dvd started freezing up toward the end! Very Frustrating!

For kids not spoiled by good special effects.

I haven't read the book, and I found the movie to be boring. Waste of time.

I tried to read this book a few years ago and just couldn't get into it. I also found the movie started slow, but when then it finally grabbed my attention about 15 minutes into the movie I was intrigued. By the middle I was loving it! This was a very entertaining way to spend the evening and would make a fabulous family movie night choice for parents with pre-teens or teens who enjoy fantasy or science fiction.

People who have not read The Dark Is Rising Sequence may rate this movie higher. I love the books and the movie disregards everything except the basic plot synopsis and some of the characters.

The Good: The cinematography was pretty good and I liked the costumes. Some of the characters were well cast.

The Bad: The plot, setting, characters and motives are largely different from the book. We aren't even told what the signs are made of in the movie. I know the books well and I could barely follow the movie. The dialogue was wooden and forced trying to relate to today's kids. There is no mention of Susan Cooper's prophecies that lend to the books' magical appeal. Also, I have to say, I loved Ian McShane in "The Pillars of the Earth" but I felt he was miscast as Merriman.

If you really want to experience a mythical, magical battle between Light and Dark through time with unforgettable characters and ethereal settings, be sure to look for the award-winning books by Susan Cooper. I've thoroughly enjoyed them as a youth and an adult.

This movie was a lot of fun, while it is directed at kids I still managed to find myself very entertained by this movie. I would recommend this to fans of science fiction.

I like how they choose Alexander Ludwig to play Will Stanton! He's probably my favorite canadian actor...

The book that this is based on is by far much better than the movie version.

Will Stanton: I'm supposed to save the world? Okay, I can't even figure out how to talk to a girl!
Merriman Lyon: Don't let a girl distract you. You got work to do.
