I watched this fully expecting not to like it- but you'd have to be pretty hard hearted and cynical not to appreciate its charms even a little bit.
How many movies do we see in this modern age that (rightly) devote so much attention to such an adorable animal while making itself something to watch for the entire family? I can't think of any others right now, so on we go. Based on the memoirs of the same name, the writer John Grogan and his wife Jenny, in an attempt to prepare themselves for having kids, acquire a Labrador retriever puppy who is named Marley after singer Bob Marley. Then, as Marley grows up, hijinks ensue as the family grows and changes, all the while they all continue to bond with their furry companion. Much like the book it's based on, this film should tug at the heartstrings from beginning to end. Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston actually do make a convincing couple. They're not perfect, but absolute perfection is boring. The flaws in their "coupling" are what make them more interesting to watch, even during the more hammy moments. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll...experience just about every emotion known to man. This film is a 21st century family picture and should not be missed.

Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson are upstaged by a dog, and family friendly cuteness. Because that is where their careers are now.

Perhaps the book was better (usually are), however as having experience with more than one companion dog, i did not feel the warmth for this movie as most people seem to have had.
I found it to be too cute and found the two "parents" to be lacking in their abilities in raising and training their companion animal.
I did not even finish the film, not so much as because i couldn't watch it, as Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, were alright, but just never got back to it, after having to leave it for real life!

Originally produced as a motion picture in 2008 and based on the book by John Grogan, this 115-minute comedy-drama depicts an amazing, amusing and incorrigible dog called Marley.
The film portrays John Grogan and his family's life during the thirteen years that they lived with their dog Marley, and the relationships and lessons from this period.
Marley, a yellow Labrador Retriever, appears as a high-strung, boisterous, and somewhat uncontrolled dog.
He is strong, powerful, endlessly hungry, eager to be active, and often destructive.
It is definitely a good movie for dog-lovers.
Although I enjoyed it, the first two-thirds of the film are somewhat repetitious and boring.
"Hachi" is certainly much better as a docudrama.

Dog had a hot mess existence if you read the book which the movie captured. Author & his wife weren't living the Disney lifestyle.

Inappropriate, NOT for little kids. I was shocked when I watched this. Not very much about the dog, just the people.

In the beginning it was a very funny and cute movie. Towards the end it was sad. If I watch a comedy I want it to be a comedy not change all of sudden and go another direction becoming a different genre stealing the moments where I was laughing throughout the movie.

Family style movie about a man, woman and dog. Didn't find this movie one of Owen Wilson's best or funniest. Sunday afternoon family movie.

That's not a dog; its evil with a dog face!

John Grogan: A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if your rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?
