Brilliant film!
Jim Carey gives a fantastic performance buttressed by an excellent script and direction. When there is sex between two men the director has to frame the shot so as not to offend audiences who otherwise might not think twice about full frame explicit male/female intercourse. As if to mock this convention, the director creates some scenes where you might actually feel as though you're seeing everything, all the while laughing your ass off. I'd match Carey's achievement with any of Cary Grant's great over the top comedic screwball performances.

A con man who falls in love with another man. It's more than just a gay love story though. What's really amazing is finding out that they really did base 90% of this on facts and real Steven Russell.

Interesting to watch the directors (& others) commentary. They actually left out some stuff that seemed too unbelievable to be true! A lot of fun, and sad, too, especially because it's true.

Utterly hilarious! I picked it up at the library having no idea what it was about, so it was quite a surprise. Mind you, it's rated R, so if you can't handle that, then don't watch it. Never was a Jim Carrey fan before, but he seems to be maturing well as an actor. McGregor was also excellent.

Wel I am no prude but i didn't like all the sex & kissing of two men. That said the story was ok along with the acting. Not sure how much was true but if you can get over my first remarks than this will be a good movie for you . Do not recommend for young kids!!

I have a weakness for stories about people who take on new identities - The Great Imposter and Catch Me if You Can being two examples.

This is a rather odd movie. It takes a real life story with a tragic ending and plays it as exaggerated, candy-coloured, over-the-top comedy. Not that the real-life story doesn't have its absurdity, but it seems a strange stylistic choice. The story it tells is strong enough without all the glossy artificial trappings.

Jim Carrey tones down his usual mugging a bit, though not quite enough for me. Ewan McGregor's performance was a lot more subdued and recognizably human.

The "based on a true story" gets pushed aside by Carrey's mugging and the attempted slapstick. Since it's generally unsympathetic, it's hard to care.

Best film Jim Carey has done in years. Funny and entertaining.
