Jeff Pearlman has written one heck of an expose about a great man, an incredible football player and very much a sinner like we all are. Pearlman, a noted fan of Payton as were many of us, exposes the many transgressions of Payton and how we was really a contradictory character. No one is perfect and am not trying to make Payton into some sort of bad person as he could be the sweetest person to kids and yet didn't spend enough time with his own children. That may have been due to the fact that he wasn't in a happy marriage. Anyway, Pearlman sets the table by getting a lot of background info of when Walter was a tyke and always trying to live up to an older brother, Eddie, who was a natural athlete whilst Walter had to work hard and early on was more gifted musically and with dance. Wonderful book, highly recommended!

This wonderful biography will take you on a roller coaster ride. There are many highs and lows that show the differences of the human experience. Here is a man that is full of love, compassion, beauty, confidence, and belief in God. On the other hand he is insecure, ignores his family, is immature in many ways, but all in all is an incredible man. If you are a sports fan you will get insights that you'd probably rather not have, but all in all you will love this book.
