GREAT Episode 5 of fab Ken Burns jazz series. Apparently this is Part 1 of the swing episodes - now have a hold on Episode 6.
Swing - Pure Pleasure covers mainly 30's Depression era evolution of swing and includes material on Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and then Benny Goodman who became the King of Swing and help popularize jazz into mainstream America, particularly with nationwide expansion of radio to reach huge audiences.
Includes some fab film of lindy hoppin' and jitterbuggin' , etc. as jazz was originally a dance oriented music style and emerging youth/teen culture helped make swing music a national craze.
Love to see those ladies twirling in their pleated skirts!
