I hadn't read anything by Andrew Kaufman until this, and I loved this, LOVED IT! It was so interesting, imaginative, dark & fun, and now I want to read everything he's ever written. I highly recommend this novella.

Moving and disturbing at the same time, this novella is a quick read carrying a lot of heavy weight. Like the title, the short sections of the book move from character to character, unfurling tiny slices of their lives that are both heartbreaking and uplifting.

I wanted to read something by this author but was not compelled to finish this book. I'd say that I don't like magical realism but I'm enjoying Michael Crummey's Galore.

This was an odd little book. It was a quick read and was certainly interesting. IF you're at all a fan of magical realism I'd give this one a look.

A thief walks into a bank and proceeds to rob the people there. Not for money but for the object on them at that moment that has the most sentimental value. When he leaves with the object he tells them that they'd better find a way to grow back what was taken they will die.

Strange things begin to happen. One woman turns into candy, another's husband becomes a snow man, our narrator's wife begins to shrink. And shrink. And shrink.

As said I said, it's a weird little thing, but it's quick and certainly worth a peek.

He put on his other pair of dark shoes and the lace in the left shoe broke. He changed into his light suit but, when tightening the lace on his right brown show, it, too, broke. He looked at the lace in his hand. He looked at the laces on the floor. "I have to leave you," he said to his wife, but she was already gone.
