A marginally satisfying conclusion to the series. The core conflict presented as the story's premise seemed somewhat of a stretch to me from the beginning. Nevertheless, I enjoy Lee's writing even though I'd rank this the least enjoyable of the four Agency books. I'd highly recommend this series to teens interested in historical mysteries.

A satisfying conclusion to what has been an overall really enjoyable series. All the books would have benefitted from an extra 50+ pages to tie up some loose ends and this one was no exception, but thoughtful characterizations, a well-developed romance (that doesn't turn a blind eye to the sacrifices required of women who wanted to marry in this era), lots of excellent period detail, and nuanced explorations of racial identity in Victorian London turn what appears on the surface to be a sort of fluffy YA series into something more substantial, and worth a read.

This is a pretty good series. Mary is a fabulous character, even though I don't always agree with some of the things she says.

My favourite of the series, I think because it seemed more believable to me. There are a lot of mentions to events that were happening at the time. Also, the relationship between Mary and James is really cute. A good ending to the series, although this one made me wish there would be some more.
