A gripping murder mystery. Told in a diary format, alternating between the investigative reporter and the victim. Twists and turns. Really enjoyed this novel.

Summit Lake was filled with mystery, murder, love and intrigue till the very last page. Great first book by this author. Kept you reading and turning the pages well into the night, as you tried to figure out what the next twist to the story would be. The characters were real and you wanted to keep reading to find out the end of their story. An end that will surprise even the most avide mystery readers. Will be looking for additional books by this author.

Summit Lake by Charlie Donlea is an excellent debut mystery that keeps you turning the pages.
The setting is a small town in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The plot moves back and forth between Kelsey Castle, a true crime journalist, in the present investigating the savage murder and rape of Becca Eckersley, with Becca, a first year law student, telling her own story before her death threaded in between. Both women have secrets that become revealed throughout the story in tantalizing increments and there are plenty of twists and turns that surprise.
I found all of the characters to be interesting and well fleshed out. The pacing of the story is fast and entertaining. I did have a small problem with the lack of law enforcement involvement and the way Kelsey obtained some of her information. The reveal of the killer was truly unexpected. Well worth the read and I will be looking for more from this author.
