It's hard to describe this book: Mysterious, but not too creepy. Realistic with a dash of the supernatural. Intriguing and wonderful and a little romantic. Watching Aila deal with her mother's death as she has to move to the small town where her mom grew up brought up all kinds of challenges. Will she figure out if her mother is linked to the Disappearances? First it was scent that disappeared and later seeing your own reflection...why do these things happen? I loved this book!

I read this book as an ARC. Here is part of my review:

"I liked how it took a while for the romance to build up. It made their relationship so much more believable!

The only thing I did not like is that so much of the plot was packed in just a few chapters of the book."

I found Emily Bain Murphy's "The Disappearances" to be a fascinating read. Just as I thought I was able to figure it out, another clue would pop up, destroying my theory. Then, as I was approaching the end of the book, I found myself at a familiar crossroads: has my time been wasted reading this book? Will the author throw the ending away? Will I hate the way the author chooses to finish the story?

All three questions, the answer was an affirmative NO! Murphy's skill, talent, and most of all imagination were the perfect storm in book format. I hope to see more by this author. None of the overused dragons, vampires, or cliché for her. Just good story, lots of excitement, and good writing. Cheers to her and the way she weaves a story, capturing the audience.

Well done, Emily Bain Murphy! Well done!

I was shocked by this book. Its amazing. Such mystery within it but some romance. But it mainly focused on the mystery. I recommend everybody to read this book.
