When a young girl from Promise Falls is killed by a drunk driver, the community wants answers. It doesn't matter that the accused is a kid himself: all they see is that he took a life and got an easy sentence. As pack mentality kicks in and social media outrage builds, vicious threats are made against the boy and his family. When Cal Weaver is called in to investigate, he finds himself caught up in a cold-blooded revenge plot. Someone in the town is threatening to put right some wrongs...And in Cal's experience, it's only ever a matter of time before threats turn into action.

Always had trouble engaging with any of Linwood Barkley's novels.
This is no different and I didn't finish it.
Works for some I guess.

Linwood Barclay takes us back to Promise Falls and introduces us to new characters. A fabulous read with a lot of twists and turns. If you’ve enjoyed his previous books you will love this one.

If you like Linwood Barclay's other books, then you will like this one too. It is a typical Barclay thriller, and this one is also set in Promise Falls and features some familiar characters. There are loads of new characters, many plotlines to follow and lots of twists and turns along the way. It is fast-paced, engrossing and suspenseful. I really hated the ending of this one, however. Instead of feeling satisfied at the end, I just felt frustrated and disappointed. Because of the unpleasant ending, I ended up not liking this book quite as much as I would have otherwise. It was still a good fun thriller, but not quite great.

While I couldn't put "Parting Shot" down, I have one criticism. Two of the characters' names are confusingly similar: Cal Weaver and Cory Calder should not be in the same book.

This book is good, you read along and think you know where the plots are going, you get to see linkages before the characters do. The end throws in some twists and ends suddenly with a number of unfinished issues... fodder for the next Promise Falls story I guess.

Excellent addition to Barclay's Promise Falls series of books! Kept me guessing to the end!

Enough turns and twists to make your head spin. Captivating.

I have read most of Linwood Barkley's book and this one is as interesting as the others. I like his strong characters and the story line makes this book a page turner. The events are exciting and we see how character work through the stress of the events. Always a few twist and turns included to change the end. Good Read!

Despite being a Linwood Barclay fan, I had trouble getting engaged in this book - probably was 40% through before I was fully engaged. Maybe I was distracted by the holidays. It is a good read with lots and lots of things going on - main plots, sub-plots and many characters. I know this is yet another book in the Promise Falls series, but the ending was a bit too abrupt and left a number of loose ends that may or may not get addressed in future books, but I am betting some will not. I remain a fan and will read his next book for sure. But this was not one of his better books.

Cal Weaver and Det. Barry Duckworth return in the next in the Promise Falls series. Both are excellent characters.

Twists and twisted characters, Barclay style, made this an adventure. I didn't want to put this one down!

A great read, though I do suggest you start the Promise Series at the beginning to get the most out of this one.

I just learned this is the last Promise Falls novel as the author has joined a new publishing house. :(
