A story of loyalty and hope. The main character was harsh but understandably so. By the description of the book, I was expecting more of an animal-human connection. I really enjoyed the story even though the ending felt a bit rushed.

PTSD-ridden LeAnne Hogan leaves the military hospital after losing her right eye and friend/roommate. As she travels around the country, flashing back to her childhood and time in Afghanistan, LeAnne is saved by a dog. The grudging partnership of these two gals is poignant. I think even Claudette would approve.

Leanne is a young woman who could be someone you know or love, and whose life has been upended by the brutality of war. I liked the character a lot, and the story was engaging. Although this book is a strong departure from the adventures of Chet the Jet, I was surprised and amused to find some of Chet's common turns of phrase sneaking their way into descriptions of Leanne's struggle.

The best book I have read for a long time. I like this author, and though this novel is very different than his other dog stories, it was compelling. A female war vet, with PTSD, LeAnne, has issues, but is a hero before and after her injuries. Goody, a stray dog, helps her find herself, and a little girl. I thought the memory problems were well written, and realistic. I hope to read more about LeAnne.
