A fascinating read but not as engaging as I had hoped. I found it difficult to keep track of the various lady travellers as they were switched back and forth within some sections. It is still a wonderful opportunity to read about how some adventurous women historically saw themselves and their world though. It was interesting that several women took on not only the clothes of men to travel, but the personas and lives as well, including taking wives and female lovers of their own. "No Place for A Lady" only mentions these events in passing really but it certainly raises some interesting thoughts to encourage further readings. Also of note is that some short quotes and words are not translated to english for the reader so you may on occasion find yourself deciphering antique french and italian amongst others.
