This is a documentary about the aspirations of high-school basketball players from inner city Chicago. It follows two high school boys named William Gates and Arthur Agee. Though both boys are in very different situations financially and family wise, they share the same emotional pain and success. William is instantly put onto the high school varsity team and his skills as one of the best players are evident. It seems as if William has a chance to be as good as he wants to. With the help of his brother, a former player, and his demanding coach, William finds success on the basketball court. As his career progresses William is faced with obstacles that may jeopardize his whole future. On the other hand, Arthur Agee starts of on the freshman team at the same school at William, but soon finds he is unable to cope with the financial demands of the school. Arthur goes back to attend the public school near his house to chase his basketball dreams. While trying to avoid the dangers in his life, Arthur is determined to use the game of basketball to achieve his goals. The two boys are transformed into young men throughout the documentary. Life altering decisions and college recruiting show the different qualities of each boy and how they deal with certain situations. This documentary gives a great insight on how student athletes think and how they must make the right choices in life.
