This is a fairly decent introduction to everyone's favourite Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot. All the elements are already set in place. A dysfunctional family, death of of the leader of the household, and Poirot, who just happens to be there at the right moment. Hastings is an entertaining narrator and it's fun to watch Poirot use his little "grey cells" to solve the case. If you want to start reading Agathe Christie novels, this is the one to start with.
