It's really more a book about The Mother and I kept having to remind myself that the story was being told through the anguish of a mother whose child has gone missing. At times it was just a bit annoying that these busy parents seemed to know next to nothing about their children's activities, friends, sexuality, drug usage etc., but I guess it's not all that uncommon. Sometimes parents don't probe beyond the surface because they just don't want to know. The writing was quite well done and rich with imagery. I was not surprised, but I was a little perplexed by the ending.
