Boy finds out that he is the keeper of a key to The Library and evil phantom is after it. (At the beginning, I really don't like the negative reinforcement of the pit bull vision.....of all the dogs in the world, really.) The beginning is so promising: action, tense, scary. Then there seems to be alot of time spent on trying to convince the boy that supernatural things exist. 100 pages in and he's still doubtful. Realistically, even if you don't believe in ghosts the things that were happening to him should have easily convinced a young person. Especially a young person. Adults are skeptical, kids are not. Then you have an evil lady coming after you with hallucinations that feeds on fear and you get scared and believe everything in front of you? Then you trap her and instead of leaving her in The Library, you put the box in the ocean for anyone to pull up? Are kids really that dumb. This book is definitely for the third graders.
