If you loved the book, this movie may come as a letdown. The film is quite faithful to the first half, build-up section of the novel, but then rushes to a close just when the truly beautiful, multiple unfoldings occur. As one example, Ove's gift of an iPad to the older sister, Sepidah. This is a major event in the reader's gradual appreciation of Ove's true character, developed over several passages in the book. The film dispatches it with a single sentence, "You probably should have this." Someone who has not read the book would probably think it trivial. It definitely is not, tracing to Ove's and Sepidah's bonding over their shared interest in designing-building houses. Perhaps the director should have followed the Harry Potter lead and done this in two films.
