To be able to tell a story through (mostly) illustrations only, and then to also squeeze all kinds of emotion out of it on top of that, makes this such a fun "read." It obviously follows a storyline, but each viewer is allowed to make their own version of the story, catering to their specific culture, beliefs, current situation, etc. I own this book, and every time we "tell" it, it's always a new version. It's simple enough, yet thorough enough, that any child can follow along and "read" it to you. Obviously this book is labeled under "fiction," so no need to be critical of whether-or-not this would happen in real life. Part of the joy of being a child, is an endless imagination, the hope for what's to come, the possibility of adventure and discovery, the innocence of animal friends, and the idea that everything is "fixable." This is my family's all-time favorite wordless child's illustration book.
