Beautifully written novel about two sisters, one going through cancer treatment, the other struggling with her reactions. Their mother died of cancer when they were young, and Elizabeth coped by losing herself in work and distancing herself in another city. Reading Jane Austen novels during treatments brings the prickly sisters together, although the novels bring back memories of their mother’s last days. The mother loved the author so much that she named her daughters after characters in Pride and Prejudice. While Elizabeth takes time off to help Jane, she also fears getting fired from her dream restaurant. A warmhearted father and a new love interest help. Elizabeth finds new satisfaction in using her cooking talents to help Jane and other cancer patients stomach their food during treatment. It was fascinating to learn that different cooking approaches might help patients gain strength during the difficult treatments. The way family grew, in fits and starts, to form a more complete whole, was very satisfying.
